Housing Options

SRO Housing Corporation offers clean, safe and affordable single room occupancy housing (emergency, Yankee Lobbytransitional and permanent) for homeless, formerly homeless and low-income individuals.

While some units consist of a sink, complete furnishings, linens and a refrigerator, others include a private bathroom and kitchenette. In general, anyone over the age of 18 without a permanent residence and with some form of steady income is eligible to live in an SRO Housing Corporation unit. A number of sites offer accommodations for the elderly and frail (55 years and over), stabilized chronically mentally ill, recovering substance abusers, persons living with HIV/AIDS, persons with co-occurring disorders, and veterans.

Emergency housing is available at the Russ Hotel, 517 S. San Julian St., and the Panama Hotel, 403 E. 5th St.. Both hotels accept clients from other agencies such as the Los Angeles County Department of Social Services, County Department of Health Services, County Brownstone CourtyardDepartment of Mental Health, FEMA, Homeless Assistance Program, LAHSA, etc. Please visit the Social Services Resource Desk in the Russ Hotel lobby at 517 S. Transitional housing is available for persons in recovery from substance abuse and people with severe mental illness or co-occurring disorders. Permanent housing is available to people 18 years of age or older who have aform of steady income (through employment, General Relief, Supplemental Security Income, etc.) and do not have a permanent residence. Please contact the Rental Office at the Russ Hotel, 517 S. San Julian St. between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. or call (213) 229-9365 to apply for housing.
