Property Management

SRO Housing Corporation offers clean, safe and affordable single room occupancy housing (emergency/short-term, transitional and permanent) for homeless and low-income individuals.

 

While some units consist of a sink, complete furnishings, linens and a refrigerator, others include a private bathroom and kitchenette. In general, anyone over the age of 18 without a permanent residence and with some form of steady income is eligible to live in an SRO Housing Corporation unit. Experienced and trained security staff monitor all sites 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A number of sites offer accommodations for older or frail adults (aged 55 years and over), people with stabilized chronic mental illness, those recovering from substance abuse, persons living with HIV/AIDS, persons with co-occurring disorders, and veterans.

Emergency Shelter

The Russ Hotel accepts clients from other agencies such as the Los Angeles County Department of Social Services, County Department of Health Services, County Department of Mental Health, LAHSA, etc.

Russ Hotel

The Russ Hotel is a 168-unit single room occupancy emergency housing facility. The building has shared bathrooms, community lounge area, laundry facility, social service offices, Resource Desk and rental offices. All units come fully furnished. The Russ Hotel is located adjacent to the San Julian Park. Single Room Occupancy Housing Company completed renovations in 1989.

Transitional Housing

Available for persons in recovery from substance abuse.

Marshal House

The Marshal House is a 74-unit transitional housing facility for homeless veterans. The building has shared bathrooms, showers, community kitchen, community lounge, case management offices, and laundry facilities. All units come fully furnished. In addition to providing transitional housing, additional services include case management services, food services, support groups, 12-step meetings, money management, job education and job referrals.

 

Permanent Supportive Housing

Available to people 18 years of age or older who have a form of steady income (through employment, General Relief, Supplemental Security Income, etc.) and do not have a permanent residence. Please contact the Rental Office at the Russ Hotel, 517 S. San Julian St. between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. or call (213) 229-9365 to apply for housing.

Angelus Inn

The Angelus Inn is a 30-unit, single room occupancy affordable permanent supportive housing facility. The building has shared bathrooms, showers, community kitchen, and community lounge. All units come fully furnished. The Angelus Inn was placed in service in 1989 and renovated in 1991. The property has been awarded Section 8 certificates. 29 units receive rental subsidies.

Brownstone

The Brownstone Apartments is a 48-unit single room occupancy affordable permanent supportive housing facility, including a property manager’s unit. All units have individual bathrooms and kitchens in every unit, a community kitchen and lounge space/computer lab, property manager/security office, case management offices and laundry facility. There is an ‘alcohol-free’ grocery market called Best Market on the first floor. All units at the Brownstone Apartments receive rental subsidies. All units come fully furnished.

The Carlton’s original renovation occurred in 1992.

The Ellis is a 58-unit single room occupancy affordable permanent supportive housing facility for at-risk elderly. 14 of these units are for individuals with special needs and receive rental subsidies. This property is also connected to Gladys Park (through a side door).

Gateways Apartments

Gateways Apartments is a 108-unit,
6-story single room occupancy affordable permanent supportive housing facility.
The units are approximately 400 sq. ft. including a kitchenette and private bathroom. All units have separate bathrooms along with individual living, dining and cooking areas, double-glazed windows, linoleum flooring in the bedroom/living areas, air conditioning, closets and cabinet space. All units come fully furnished. The building has 2 elevators, community room with community kitchen, conference room, computer room, laundry facility, subterranean parking and solar panels on the roof. This is SRO Housing’s first certified LEED Gold building.

Golden West opened in 1988, and was converted from transitional housing to permanent housing in 2013.

SRO Housing Corporation proposes to construct a seven story affordable supportive multi-family permanent rental housing project consisting of 100 Studio Apartments and 1 - 1BR apartment for the site manager, totaling 101 units. The project will include indoor and outdoor recreation and lounge spaces as well as a community kitchen. There are two levels of subterranean parking garage proposed for 100 spaces. The project will also include a laundry room with 7 Washers/7 Dryers.

 

This proposed project will accommodate 75 units for Chronic Homeless Veterans along with 25 units for formerly homeless individuals and 20 market affordable units for low income individuals and 1 site manager’s unit.

James M. Wood Apts.

The James M. Wood Apartments is a 53-unit single room occupancy affordable permanent supportive housing facility. All units have individual bathrooms, individual kitchens and air-conditioning. The building has 24-hour security, an elevator, community room with community kitchen, conference and computer room, property manager and case management offices, laundry facility and one level of subterranean parking. 31 units are reserved for chronically homeless individuals with special needs. All units come fully furnished. James M. Wood Apartments opened in July 2009.

housing facility. 58 units are reserved for Chronic Homeless Persons w/ Mental Illness. All units have individual bathrooms and kitchens in every unit and come fully furnished. Renato Apartments has two elevators, community room with community kitchen, conference/computer room, a library, a center courtyard and a laundry facility for the residents. There are 2 levels of subterranean parking.

SRO Housing acquired the property in 1998 and completed renovations in 1992.

The Lyndon Apartments is a 53-unit single room occupancy affordable permanent supportive housing facility. Prior to rehabilitation, the Lyndon was 3 stories and the 4th floor was added to accommodate expansion of the units so that every unit would have a private individual bathroom and individual kitchenette. 48 units are for individuals with special needs and receive rental subsidies. All units come fully furnished. Lyndon has an elevator, community room with community kitchen, conference / computer room, case management offices and a laundry facility for the residents.

New Terminal

There are two street-level commercial spaces. New Terminal Apartments opened in 2005.

The Panama Hotel, a 221-unit, emergency housing shelter has been converted into a 72-unit affordable permanent supportive housing project. All units have individual bathrooms and kitchens in every unit, in addition to a new community kitchen and lounge space, computer lab, security office, property manager and case management offices, laundry room and elevator. All units are fully furnished.

Rivers Hotel

The Rivers Hotel is a 76-unit single room occupancy affordable permanent supportive housing facility. All units have individual bathrooms and kitchens in every unit and come fully furnished. 60 units receive rental subsidies. The building has an elevator, community room with community kitchen, conference / computer room, case management offices, center courtyard and a laundry facility. There is also ground-level parking. There are several units on the first floor are connected by a door to a workspace facing 7th Street. These units can be leased to the tenants who choose to operate a small business. There is an alcohol-free grocery market on the first floor.

Rosslyn Hotel Apts.

The Rosslyn Hotel Apartments consists of 264-unit single room occupancy affordable permanent supportive housing facility. Currently, 167 units are set aside for chronic homeless individuals including 119 Veterans. Rosslyn Hotel Apartments is a concrete and steel-framed thirteen story structure over a basement area. All Rosslyn units have been upgraded to full efficiency apartments, including new kitchenettes and private bathrooms. All units come fully furnished. All major systems (including Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing) have also been rehabilitated. Both existing elevators have been modernized as well. Building’s interior and exterior has been rehabilitated with funding from the Historical Tax Credits program, restoring the Rosslyn Hotel close to its original condition.

The Yankee Apartments is an 80-unit single room occupancy affordable permanent supportive housing facility. All units have individual bathrooms and kitchens in every unit and come fully furnished. 22 units are market-rate rent, 56 units receive rental subsidies, and two units are manager and assistant manager units. The building has an elevator, community room with community kitchen, conference / computer room, center courtyard, case management offices and a laundry facility. There’s also one level of underground parking.
